2012 Essex Institute

Essex Institute for
Independent School Enrollment Management

Challenging times demand creative solutions.  For more than 20 years The Essex Institute has expanded the concept of enrollment management, bringing together independent school admission professionals and colleagues to discuss leadership skills, develop plans for strengthening enrollment, and enhance the overall promotion of their schools. The four-day, three-night program is unique for independent school enrollment managers in combining presentations with opportunites for collaborative conversation, problem solving, and strategic planning in a non-competitive, supportive environment. Schools are strongly encouraged to send teams, and groups work together to discuss issues of common concern.

Comments from past Essex Participants

  • “The lack of a rigid agenda was refreshing.  Too often conversations and sessions at these sorts of retreats are pre-determined based on what people feel we “should” be talking about rather than what we feel we need to talk about.  I liked the free flow (yet directed) format.”

  • “I appreciated the opportunity to reflect on my own practice, to share with peers, and to learn from them.  I leave with ideas that I can plan to investigate and implement at my school.”

  • “Thought provoking, challenging, current.  Lots of Eureka! moments!”

  • “The flexibility of Essex is the BEST!  I love that we are able to take time to cover things and not have to move too quickly.”

  • “Eye opening, forward thinking…I appreciated the honesty of the participants.”

  • “The blend of philosophy, strategy, and the nuts and bolts of the enrollment management business afforded me the opportunity to hear some great ideas and perspectives.  I am leaving more energized about the responsibility I am charged with.”
